The environmental economy is of considerable importance for the business location North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany's largest provider of services and products in this strongly growing and cross-section-oriented industry. In the Automation and Control Engineering Department of the Machine Tool Laboratory (WZL) at RWTH Aachen University, methods and concepts are being developed in various projects to support companies in the environmental industry in overcoming their current challenges. This enables them to position themselves in a future-oriented and innovative way despite the currently adverse market situation. The methods and concepts developed make an important ecological contribution to climate neutrality, sustainable resource management and the protection of natural resources. The projects located in the wood and forestry industry, in water management and in agriculture promote the transfer of innovative technologies from the fields of information and automation technology or from the manufacturing technology sector to the field of environmental management and thus make a decisive contribution to accelerating the green transformation.
