Managing the Mobility Transition
Germany is regarded worldwide as an "automotive stronghold". Not only the established OEMs but also the broad-based supplier network, for example in the area of car body and component production, are economic and innovation drivers. The trend of the mobility turnaround, towards alternative drive concepts, has already arrived in the manufacturing industry. Nevertheless, we are just at the beginning of a continuous change and overcoming current challenges such as resource scarcity, supply bottlenecks and the long-term change of business models. Current research projects of the Department of Automation and Control Engineering deal with topics such as the development of innovative production concepts, circular economy, battery cell production or transfer of research results to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The needs of SMEs and OEMs are integrated and orientation gaps are closed with joint strategies for future ecological and economic production orientation. A constant companion here is the leveraging and utilization of data in the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), for example in battery cell production.
