The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic as well as the ongoing Russo-Ukraine war impose the German economy by causing shortages of supply and rising energy costs . Therefore, supporting small- and medium-sized enterprises (SME) with the implementation of digitalization strategies is currently of particular importance.  Companies with fewer than 250 employees show a significantly lower level of digitalization. The lack of human and financial ressources as well as the rapid devopment of technological innovations impede the practical implementation . Projects like the „Mittelstand Digitalzentrum Rheinland“ address the specific needs of SMEs. The spectrum extends from concepts of digital work and networked added value to the use of algorithms of the field of artificial intelligence.
